Through the Adopt-A-Spot program, community members take charge of the health of their neighborhood, block or favorite spot by committing to keeping it litter-free.
About the Adopt-a-Spot Program
Thomas County, the City of Thomasville and Keep Thomas County Beautiful are seeking volunteers to assist with keeping our community public spaces clean and maintaining the beautiful landscape that is south Georgia. The goal of this program is to inspire individuals to take greater responsibility for creating a clean and beautiful community through litter prevention and community beautification.

The goal of this program is to inspire individuals to take greater responsibility for creating a clean and beautiful community through litter prevention and community beautification.
- Almost any spot can be adopted - near schools, library sites, residential common areas, parks.
- Adoptee's maintain their spot by keeping it free of litter and debris on an ongoing basis for a minimum of one year.
- Spot maintenance takes approximately two to three hours per cleanup, including the time it takes to file a cleanup report.
What are the benefits to the community and governmental bodies?
The obvious benefits is the beautification and enhancement of previously blighted areas. Volunteers removing litter and maintaining a site saves governmental man-hours inspecting and cleaning blighted areas, thus saving public tax dollars. Increased involvement by citizens in litter control and beautification will also strengthen your community and neighborhood pride as well.

Who Can Adopt-A-Spot?
Any civic-minded individual, family or organization can adopt a stretch of roadway (one mile minimum), neighborhood or area in the community. Examples of organizations include but are not limited to, Garden Clubs, Neighborhood Organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Church Groups, School Groups, FFA/FHA, Rotary Clubs, etc..

- Develop a functional plan and agree to a minimum one-year commitment.
- Plan and oversee a general cleanup a minimum of four times a year
- Assist Keep Thomas County Beautiful in securing media coverage for the program. (Submitting pictures to KTCB, sharing on social media, etc.,)
- Coordinate with Keep Thomas County Beautiful to carry out the plan
- Report data: number of volunteers, hours, and amount of litter collected
What are the responsibilities of Keep Thomas County Beautiful?

- Furnish an Adopt-a-Street sign stating the responsible organization, to be posted at adopted site.
- Provide assistance to remove debris collected at the adoptive site.
- Provide safety vests, gloves and plastic bags to aid in the litter removal activities.
- Provide signage to alert motorists that a clean-up is in progress on heavily traveled roads.
- After adoption is finalized and the first cleanup requirements are met, a sign is installed by the spot featuring the volunteer or volunteer organizations name.
